Awassa Neighbourhood Redevelopment Initiative

67 families living in the town of Awassa, some 300 kilometres south of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), receive coaching in means of improving both their economic and social opportunities. Intervolve’s work in Ethiopia also comprises environmental and health aspects, as well as the construction of better housing.

The primary objective in Awassa is to boost the participating families’ income. After all: they will never be able to improve their (living) circumstances without sufficient income.

In 2009 Telengy VROM celebrated its fifth anniversary in a special way. The agency requested EsteamWork to organise a so called learning journey for its employees. This corporate social responsibility trip took place in June to our project in Ethiopia. For Telengy VROM it was important to involve and captivate all employees in order to support a development project with feasible results.

And they were succesful

In the preparatory phase during 2008 Telengy VROM is getting acquainted with Intervolve and our programme in Awassa (Ethiopia) through workshops and other regular meetings. Telengy VROM will also develop a citizen participation game and a citizen information point. And for the furnishing of the day care center the people of Telengy VROM are raising sponsor money. This year is also an important period for identifying a case on which the experts of Telengy VROM will work during their stay in Ethiopia. The advice on the case will form input for the further implementation of the project.

This whole project is named ‘Life VROM Awassa’ and on the website www.lifevromawassa.nl you can read all about it.
