Duncan Village Redevelopment Initiative

Duncan Village is a township in the city of East London (Municipality of Buffalo City) in South Africa. Both citizen’s housing conditions and socio economic prospects are particularly poor. The initial stage of redevelopment of Duncan village consists of the construction of a new high-density housing scheme to accommodate approximately 8000 families, and a low-density residential area on the periphery of Duncan Village.

High Return Housing Programme

Intervolve launched this programme in East London, South Africa, in 1998. It has since succeeded in training people, building houses, establishing businesses and reducing urban poverty. Our programme has also received two awards: In 2002 the South African government designated us the ‘Most Innovative Housing Programme’, and we were also awarded the title ‘Developer of the Year’.
